Our top pick right now is, We Waited For You, a beautiful rhyming book that tells the story of a family who had to wait a little longer for their happy ending. As a same-sex family, this story really hits home with us! It’s super special to read it to our little boy and share a message of love, patience, and the family we always wished for!

Finding books that represent our family setup has been a priority. One of our favourites is Zak’s Safari, a charming story that doesn’t mirror our journey exactly but still touches on important topics like fertility treatment, clinics, and donor conception.

The story follows Zak as he shares his unique family story, highlighting that families can come together in many ways. It’s a wonderful way to introduce children to the idea that family diversity is something to be celebrated.

We’re big fans of books that explore emotions and help children learn how to process their feelings. It’s so important to give kids the tools to express themselves, and some of these stories are written so beautifully that even as adults, we find them impactful!

One of the best things about children’s books about emotions is how they break down complex feelings into simple, relatable concepts. Sometimes, the simplest words have the deepest meanings!

One of our all-time favourites currently is ‘The Worrysaurus’, who eventually learns that sometimes you can be your own biggest obstacle. The message, ‘if it’s not a happy ending, then it’s not the ending yet’, is a soothing, uplifting piece of advice, that both children and adults could gain hope from!

Although Brodie’s still a bit young to get involved, we LOVE interactive books! The Tom Fletcher series is a big hit with us, and our favourite so far is, ‘There’s a Monster in Your Book’. The playful storytelling and interactive elements make it both an enjoyable read and a fun activity. I know we’ve spent a lot of time laughing whilst reading these books to Brodie, and hopefully he’ll get tons of enjoyment in the future from them too!
